Moclín, a ancient town in southern Spain, about 45 minutes’ drive from Granada, is the breathtaking backdrop for this painting holiday. Participants of all abilities – including novices – will learn how to conceive and execute non-representational pieces. Some time will be spent in the open air, working on guided exercises en plein air. These initial sketches and paintings will then be developed in the workspace, with guests creating a number of interpretive scenes in acrylic paint to be displayed in the village. Participants has sole use of the venue, which is set around an central patio and has a sun terrace with views over the hills. The price covers five days of art instruction; full board; and an excursion to the nearby fortress and other points of interest.

Plant-Based Culinary in the Algarve

This Mediterranean foodie getaway, set on a villa by the river in the inland Portuguese region, is draws inspiration from the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. Guests will learn to produce selection of small dishes, attend a hands-on falafel session, perfect brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses such as a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the local market and a nearby winery to sample Portuguese wines, combined with free time for strolls by the Funcho River, to unwind on the deck or take a dip in the infinity pool. The farmhouse, a renovated rural property, has five bedrooms, as well as glamping tents in the gardens.

St Ives is the ideal location for a sea shanty weekend. Guests will be taught historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at writing their own. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breathing exercises, performance tips and a closing performance. The retreat is based at a country house with views of St Ives Bay. Full board are provided, such as a Cornish cream tea on the first day, breakfast options, packed lunches and evening meals. Grog, unfortunately, is not included. Writing in Greece

Author and lecturer an experienced instructor leads the regular sessions on this authors' getaway. He covers topics including story structure, character development, locations and tension, to submitting work to agents. Greg’s wife, the bestselling author Kate Mosse, will participate in events at the beginning and end of the retreat. The retreat is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the White mountains – ten one- and two-bedroom cottages are set around a central garden with a pool (non-writing partners are welcome to share). Introduction to Beekeeping in Mid Wales

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of courses on sustainability: from wildlife gardening to making pallet furniture. This two-day introduction will help attendees learn the fundamentals of beekeeping, study the biology of bees and discover their ecological importance. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a opportunity to de-stress in the organization's carefully maintained forests, which are habitat for wildlife, otters, dormice, bats and uncommon bird species. These recently launched weekend sailing courses are spent on dinghies and Dufours on the estuary in Essex.
